Coppering
Copper plating is an industrial technique with which is possible to settle a copper layer onto any metal surface. This is a widespread technique in a lot of different branches, from mechanical industry to fashion industry; depending on the specific type of products, there are different types of copper baths (and so machinery systems) to chose from.
Alcalyne copper and acidic copper
Similarly to all other plating systems, the technical machinery necessary for a copper
plating system is a system that has a main bath - in which will be the plating solution -
a rinsing bath and a recovery bath. Inside the main bath, an appropriate electrical system -
system that has to let an adequate installation of the copper anodes -, a good agitation
bath system, and a efficient heating system - to maintain constant the solution's temperature -
are needed.
There are two types of coppering baths: alcalyne and acidic. The first one uses a plating
solution containing copper cyanide, therefore the machinery system has to be seafty for workers,
concerning the industrial regulatories about cyanides; the second one uses an acidic copper
solution, and presents a different machinery system form the acidic one.
Both of these two copper plating baths are used in gold electroforming,
since with them the shell protection made of copper is made upon jewel's surfaces. They're also
used in silver industry and mechanical industry, but also in fashion industry and cooking goods
production.
